Christmas Shopping with Apold Apothecary in 2021…

Our handmade soaps and candles make lovely stocking fillers for eco-friendly gifts…

“What is Christmas?  It is the tenderness of the past, courage for the present and hope for the future’ Agnes M Pahro

Christmas Chaos or organised fun?

Which of the above do you find yourself falling into?  For me, it used to be chaos, but no longer as my shopping is almost always completed by August every year.  I’ve been called boring because I’m far too organised (but believe me not everything in this household runs smoothly!) I simply can’t think of anything worse than running in and out of busy shops, at the last minute, looking for gifts.   Since starting Apold Apothecary I have discovered so many lovely small independent businesses so I try to buy from as many as I can and shop small. After all we have to support each other.

The Past

As a child, my parents made our Christmas a very special, traditional family event.  We always had a real tree and the smell of fresh pine needles, for me, is the best festive fragrance ever.  The 24th was our main celebratory day with a church service and dinner on this day too.  I remember one year my father went down into the garden and rang small bells and I knew that Santa was on his way.  When the winter was particularly severe and icy, we both had skates and we spent hours sliding up and down the farm track that ran adjacent to the house.  There was no social media, no distractions and the holidays were magical.

The Present

Celebrating Christmas Eve with dinner and church is a tradition I’ve carried through to the present day with my own family.  For us, the 25th is a day of relaxation with no cooking.  Last year I read new books and watched a film.  I think this year will remain the same.

The Future

Hope for the future is probably what we all seek, with an end to loss and sadness within families in the current situation worldwide.  From a business perspective, I hope that Apold Apothecary will continue to grow from strength to strength as it has since setting up late 2018. There are plans afoot to make significant changes in the New Year, with a completely new range of candles and soaps.  I’ll be excited to reveal this news in January.

Handmade Christmas Gifts - perfect stocking fillers…

Don’t you think handmade is just the best?  Anything that has been made in small batches with care and attention to detail always wins me over!

Our natural soaps make ideal gifts and stocking fillers for those who want to nourish their skin.

The famous four are back again this year and they are:

Christmas Eve - a sultry and seductive fragrance that creates a warm ambience for Christmas Eve and indeed the whole festive season. With top notes of Cedarwood, heart notes of clove and myrrh and base notes of cedarwood, amber and frankincense.

Sleigh Bells - a real Christmas classic with warming notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and clove, with a glazed orange heart. With top notes of orange and mandarin. Heart notes of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and rose and base notes of spices and patchouli.

We Three Kings - A rich, dark and mystical fragrance. Top notes include cocoa, aldehydic, bergamot and orange, with heart notes of jasmine, amber and cyclamen. Patchouli, vanilla, cedarwood and musk are the base notes of this classic fragrance.

Cranberry Orange and Cinnamon - a cosy scent with a floral combination of cranberries and orange. There are heart notes of cinnamon, jasmine and lily, with base notes of cedar, musk, sandal and vanilla.

You can fill your home with festive fragrances with our large candle tins, our trio of small candle tins and reed diffusers. We also have our popular soy wax melts available this year in all of our festive fragrances. All details of these products can be found in our shop.

We will be attending plenty of local markets and events so if you’re local to us in Cheshire you can see details of where we will be in my previous post here.

I hope that you all manage to find a little magic in your Christmas this year!
