It feels like such a long time since I’ve been able to sit down and write something, but at Apold’s HQ, we’ve been incredibly busy!

The most exciting news has been the recent launch of our new website and I have Hannah to thank for that. It was live just in time for the Arley Hall Christmas Shopping Spectacular event that we took part in for the second year running.

As well as our Etsy shop, you can now buy from the website, where you will find our full range of products, including our reed diffusers that have been so popular.  I’ve had some lovely feedback about these, from several customers, that still have theirs in use well past four months.

Christmas is fast approaching and it’s difficult to plan too far ahead at the moment, as we are in our second lockdown.  Usually, in my home, Christmas Eve is full of family for dinner in the afternoon.  We always have our Christmas dinner on the 24th and then the 25th is a really chilled, lazy day (with me in pyjamas)  This is something we have done since living in Germany and half of me is German anyway!  When my children were young, it was so easy to have dinner on the 24th and to devote the 25th to playing with the toys, instead of trying to cook at the same time.  This year will be much quieter, but I’m staying positive and will make the most of whatever we are able to do.

How is your Christmas shopping coming along?  I did most of mine in January this year, in the sales!  But what I have left to buy will most definitely be purchased from small businesses, as we all need to support each other.

Standing outside the Black Church on our last holiday to Romania

I have been literally bursting with excitement when we received a large order for soaps, candles and reed diffusers to supply the Black Church Museum shop, Brasov, Transylvania.  Since setting up the business, that has been my aim, to get our products back to my second home that has inspired me so much. The Black Church is one of the most beautiful Gothic monuments in Transylvania.  We visited in 2017, before the business had been set up and hopefully we can return next year and deliver another order in person!

We’re excited to now be stocked at ‘Arabella’ in Nantwich

We’re excited to now be stocked at ‘Arabella’ in Nantwich

After trading at the Nantwich Autumn Fair, in October, we secured another fantastic outlet, Arabella.  This is an amazing shop selling unique clothing.  Jade, the owner of Arabella bought a Christmas candle from me, just as I had almost packed everything away and that was the beginning of our journey together.  If you fancy something different, you should take a look online at what they have to offer.

If you still need to buy gifts for Christmas do take a look at some of the small businesses out there, as it has been a difficult year with little opportunity to trade at artisan markets and events.  I really miss chatting to people face to face and have only managed a couple of markets this year.  I’m hoping I’ll be able to get out and about more again in 2021.  It seems very strange saying 2021, after such a trying and unsettled year we have had in 2020.

On that note, I’ll sign off for now!  Stay safe, well and positive.
