My life before I became a chandler!

‘Life isn’t about finding yourself.  Life is about creating yourself’

George Bernard Shaw

Have you been keeping warm and cosy at the start of 2021?  I’ve definitely been embracing a Hygge lifestyle.  At Apold’s HQ, in January, we launched our range of soy wax melts.  To be perfectly honest, I’m a bit of a latecomer to melts.  Many customers had been asking for them, so finally they found their way into full production. Now, at around 3pm every day, my tea light is lit and the wax melts slowly, fill the house with a comforting, relaxing fragrance.

We’re so excited to launch our new soy wax melts, available in our shop now…

I’ve mentioned many times how much I enjoy making soap and candles, but I thought I’d give you a little insight to life before I became a chandler!

My subject was theatre Studies/Drama, but I never got to use this in a work role.  There is plenty of drama in my everyday life though!

In Germany I worked for the PPA, organising and setting up play groups in different locations.  This meant travelling quite a lot, either by train or car.  The day I remember well was when I almost wrote the car off on a tramline in the centre of Dusseldorf.  This was also the day before we were about to drive to Venice for our annual three week holiday.  I kept this quiet for a long time.

Soon after this, I was lucky to be offered another role, running a Kindergarten.  My own daughter was only three years of age, so my childcare was sorted and the car was safe.

Back in the UK, I have worked for several charities, in fundraising and event management.  This was great fun and gave me the opportunity to meet some interesting people from TV and the world of sport.

I did have one disastrous job selling finance for a bank.  I completed a six week intensive training programme, all the time wondering why I was there! I was then left alone, in a pod wired up talking to customers.  One afternoon I went into panic mode, picked up my bag, said I was going to the toilet, walked out of the building and drove straight home.  That was the end of that adventure.

Before setting up Apold Apothecary in late 2018, I did some admin work for the family business and worked with my daughter on her community magazines, in which businesses advertised. But, my heart lies in being a creative person.  Over the years, in my spare time I have painted in oils and watercolour and made silver jewellery just for family and friends.  A couple of years ago I started to write a book.  I needed to go back to Transylvania last summer, but obviously my plans fell through.  But I’m keeping my fingers crossed for later this year and hope I can get the information that I need to continue writing.

After a variety of roles, I found my way to making again and I’m content……….
